If you want something done right, do it yourself! Nothing could be truer when rating air purifier performance. Trustworthy reviews are scarcer than Dodo birds. So here is a ten point checklist to help you do your own air purifier rating.

#1 Determine the Type of Air Purifier

Smart Filter

This is simple enough. There are six types widely marketed as air cleaners. Here is the bottom line:

  • HEPA uses a specialized filter capable of removing particulates down to .01 micron. This includes mechanically or chemically produced dusts and mists, biologically produced allergens and pathogens like bacteria and viruses. The 0.3 micron size often stated in ads refers to the Most Penetrating Particle Size. It only allows a mere three in ten thousand of these particles through.
  • HEPA Type: Maybe as good as 95% HEPA performance, maybe as bad as 50%. Who knows? Real data is hard to find. If you don't know what you're getting, why buy? Steer clear of anything labeled something-HEPA or HEPA-something.
  • Electret Type Electrostatically Charged Fibers make the best furnace filters you can buy. When used in an air purifier, like the 3M Ultra Clean, they do a good job. Unfortunately effectiveness declines steadily and they should be replaced every three months. A low initial cost is offset by filter replacements over the life of the unit. Good for allergies but compare lifetime cost against the better HEPA units.
  • Electrostatic Precipitators: Initial efficiencies lie in the 50% to 80% range, similar to HEPA-type filters. Unfortunately plate loading can reduce efficiency by as much as 80% in as few as three days. Regular maintenance cleaning is a must. Ozone is produced, often at dangerous levels. Avoid them.
  • Ionizers use high voltage to electrically charge particles causing them to "static cling" to something. Unfortunately they cling to walls and furniture producing the dreaded "black wall effect." The EPA thinks they may also cling to your lungs. Avoid them.
  • Ozone Generators are banned in Canada, all but banned in California, and are very much discouraged by agencies like the EPA. Ozone sickens and kills. Reject utterly.

#2 Size Matters When It Comes To The Filter

More filter surface means less resistance to air flow, thus more air flow. More particles are captured with each pass. Room air is cleaned faster. The filter lasts longer before replacement.

#3 Total System Efficiency

Just because it has a HEPA filter doesn't mean its nearly 100% efficient. Some air purifiers bypass air to help reduce backpressure and cool the motor. Some leak like sieves due to poor construction. Any air not going through the filter is air not being cleaned. Look for an air purifier proud to verify total system efficiency like the IQAir HealthPro series.

#4 Air Changes per Hour

For greatest health benefits you need 4 to 6 air changes per hour. This should be measured on some speed other than high. High is always the noisiest speed. So unless you're fine with the sound of a hurricane in your home, find one that exchanges the air sufficiently at a lower speed.

#5 Filter Costs

Air purifiers with separate pre-filters, main filter and gas phase carbon filter usually cost less in the long run than those with fully integrated filter systems. Long filter life will also reduce your long term costs.

#6 Filter Changing Ease

Most air purifier manufacturers make it easy, but there are some that require tools and a major disassembly operation. Top quality doesn't have to be complicated as proven by IQAir air purifiers.

#7 Filter Change Indicator

Why change the filter if you don't have to? Then again, running a clogged filter isn't doing you any good and may stress out the motor. The best way to know when the filter needs changing is by a pressure sensitive switch that detects when increased backpressure against the filter indicates clogging. You can find this system in the IQAir HealthPro series.

#8 Gas and Odor Removal

Many manufacturers have a pathetic carbon impregnated fiber pad. These few token ounces of activated carbon can't remove much. You need many pounds of activated carbon. Special treatments with catalysts and chemisorbers can enhance gas removal ability. Make sure it targets the pollutants of greatest concern to you because each carbon blend is focused on different chemical contaminants.

#9 The Warranty

Good air purifiers last. Most top models come with no less than a five year warranty on all parts including the motor. I've seen eight and ten year warranties from companies like AllerAir. Their record proves their air purifiers really do last this long and longer. I have an AllerAir 5000 that's going strong after five years.

#10 Return Policy

Most top quality air purifier manufacturers have a 30 day return policy. Some, like IQAir allow up to 60 days. This isn't for defects. You have a warranty for that. This is to allow you time to personally test the air purifier and see if it satisfies your needs. Don't consider any air purifier you can't test and return.

Your web page is your storefront when you decide to start an online gift basket business. To display your goods in an appealing manner, to project your positive image and to entice customers into placing orders, you really need to carefully plan out your website layout and think of every aspect of your online gift basket shop. It's where your customers and potential clients can view your samples, prices and product updates. Here are a few ideas to promote your website and online business:

First Step- Design Your Product Line

Purolator

Do you wish to design all your baskets yourself, create a model, photograph it to then put it on your website? Or do you want to sell pre-made baskets that you can buy from any gift basket supply wholesaler? If you are creative and enjoy putting together baskets you will probably want to design your own. A selection of 15-25 baskets is quite adequate to launch your web based business. Make sure to have many options that will be suitable for any occasion such as Candy Baskets, Movie Baskets, Gourmet Baskets and Health Food Baskets as well as a selection of theme baskets that will appeal to some customers such as Chef`s Basket, Golf Theme Basket, Get Well Basket, Fishing Themed Basket, etc...

Step Two-Take Attractive Photos Of Your Selection

Make sure to prepare a neutral background for you to pose your baskets in front of. Do not use cello for the pictures since the reflection and lack of visibility of products will obstruct the proper viewing of the basket. Keep in mind that you can reuse products from one basket to create a mock basket for your picture. Once you have your 15-25 pictures, format them and touch them up on your computer for optimum attractiveness.

Step Three- Establish Prices for Your Product Line

Decide on prices, then write an appealing description of the contents. Stick to general terminology such as box of delicious gourmet truffles instead of Lindt 12 pack Gold Box. You want to keep your options open so that you have no need for panic, just cheer when an order comes in. Compare prices online, then settle on a price that you will be happy with. You need to be rewarded for your time and effort while still offering a comfortable price for the customer. Follow an online gift basket template to enter all your baskets into your website.

Step Four- Decide on your shipping methods While local customers could have a local hand delivery, out-of-town customers will require courier service shipping. Purolator, Fed Ex, CanPar, UPS, investigate your options for quick and efficient shipping. Keep in mind that if you are not delivering your own baskets, you will need to make sure that your baskets are Very sturdy so as to not fall apart during shipping. You will also want to make sure that you are not including perishable fruit that will bruise easily. Go through each scenario in your head and take notes so that you can create a realistic website.

Step Five-Produce Your Web Site Unless your are very computer savy, this is the step that will make you stop dead in your tracks. The easiest way to achieve an effective online gift basket shop is to follow professionally designed web site templates, especially conceived for the basket industry. See below for a link to ideal templates that will help you to easily create the perfect web site to sell lots and lots of baskets.

Step Six- Advertise Your Online Store For potential customers to find you online, there are many things you can do to increase your odds. You can simply pay to have your ad show up when people punch in gift basket+your area. If you want to cut costs, there are many ways to have the search engines find you for free. SEO and Bum Article Marketing is the topic of many articles online.

Did you know that an air conditioning unit can omit 1.34lbs of carbon dioxide for every kilowatt hour used? By replacing older air conditioning units you could save several hundreds of pounds of carbon dioxide being released into the atmosphere each summer season. This will not only save the environment but also save you some green as well. You can save as much as using a newer air conditioning unit verses an older air conditioning unit.

When you are looking for a new air conditioning unit you will need to first look for the proper size unit for your living space. The amount of space an air conditioning unit cools is measured in BTU's. BTU's stands for British Thermal Units. When you are looking for an air conditioning unit you will first need to decide the number of BTU's that the air conditioner will need to cool your living space. You can calculate the required BTU's by multiplying the square footage of the space by 10. You will then need to add 4,000 to that number. By choosing the proper size air conditioner for the space it will allow you to conserve energy. If you choose an air conditioner too large for the area or too small for the area then you will be causing unneeded drain on your electricity.

Eco-Aire Filters

When looking for a new air conditioner unit you will also want to shop for one with an energy star approval on it. Energy Star approval is a label given to a product by the Environmental Protection Agency. This insures that the product is 10 percent more efficient than what is required by the minimum federal standards.

You will also want to look for a unit that can dehumidify the air as well if you live in a humid climate. By using an air conditioner that dehumidifies the air you will be able to make the environment more comfortable by reducing the humidity. This will allow you to keep the air conditioner at a lower setting and still feel comfortable.

You can also be eco friendly when using your new air conditioner as well. Use your air conditioner wisely to reduce electric bills as well as reducing the CO2 emissions caused by the use of electricity. By setting your air conditioner to a lower setting making it comparable to the temperatures outdoors rather than what you want it to feel like. This will make going outdoors during the summer months more enjoyable as well. Use the fan only option on the air conditioner at night to reduce the amount of electricity you use.

Many air conditioners also come with a recirculation option. This allows the air that has already been cooled to be recirculated around your home. You should have your air conditioning unit properly installed and sealed around the area to ensure you do not have cool air leaking outside. Finally be sure to clean and check the filters on your air conditioning unit regularly. Many air conditioners only need to be cleaned every 3 months but depending on the area you live in you may need to clean it as often as every month. This will help keep your air conditioning running more efficiently as well as keep you and your family more healthy.

Keeping you home cool during the summer can be a life safer but can also be dangerous on the environment. By keeping energy cost low and using the most efficient units possible you can not only save money on energy cost but also save the environment while keeping cool. Be sure to recycle your old air conditioning units. There are even some governments that will give rebates for old air conditioning units that are turned in.This program can save you as much as per unit you replace.

Trion, a division of Fedders Corporation, has developed an innovative mist collector called the Mini Mist Eliminator (Mini M.E.). Virtually all screw machines, CNC machines, surface and centerless grinders use water-soluble, synthetic and petroleum coolants to protect cutting tools and parts. The mists associated with these coolants can be harmful to the health of the machine operator through inhalation and contact with the skin and eyes. Based on potential health risks, the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) has established recommended exposure limits for oil mist.

The Mini M.E. removes oil mist from the air by utilizing the principle of electrostatic precipitation. This principle involves drawing the oil mist through an impinger which removes a majority of the mist, especially large droplets. The remaining mist is drawn through an ionizing section, charging the remaining mist particles which then pass through oppositely charged collector plates. The charged mist particles are attracted to the collector plates like a magnet. These particles then drip back down to be recaptured or drained away. The dirty collector plates can be simply washed clean, eliminating costly filter replacements.

Trion

The Mini M.E. also eliminates the need for extensive duct work because it can be easily mounted on the machine, platform or ceiling. This also helps to free up floor space. The Mini M.E. can help save on energy costs by being wired directly to the machine tool control, operating only when the machine tool does. It also helps to reduce maintenance costs by protecting equipment from oil mist.

This quality unit not only traps and removes the oil mist, but also the smoke associated with cutting tools and grinders. The Mini M.E. cleans and recirculates indoor air with up to 95% efficiency rate on 0.3 micron particles. It also offers a great advantage in that it can be seamlessly integrated into pre-existing machine tool systems.

Trion is one of the most trusted names in air purification systems. Trion has produced high quality products for industrial, commercial, military and residential markets since 1947.

The Soviet Air Force began operating the Tupolev TU-95 Bear in the mid 1950's. The Russian Air Force is still operating the venerable Bear and it's projected to continue service until the middle of the current century. The Bear was originally developed as a long range, high altitude, bomber. It fulfilled a role similar to the B-52 Stratofortress of the United States Air Force. Over the years its been modified to perform a variety of missions to include maritime patrol, cruise missile launch platform, Airborne Early Warning as well as a civilian airliner variant.

The TU-95 was a main stay of the cold war. It performed a number of missions for the Russian Military and became a common sight to U.S. and NATO air crews that were sent to intercept it. The maritime variant performed a number of useful missions for the Soviet Naval Forces including surveillance, tracking, and targeting for various soviet military assets. TU -95s routinely departed from the Kola Peninsula, flew across the Atlantic, down the eastern seaboard of the United States, and landed in Cuba

Air Bear

The Tu-95 is the fastest propeller driven aircraft, and some say one of the loudest aircraft in the world. It's powered by four Kuznetsov turbo prop engines rated at 10,000 SHP (shaft horsepower) each. Each engine drives contra-rotating propellers that have an 18ft diameter. The engines are mounted on wings that are swept back 35 degrees. The fuselage is cylindrical, has a rounded nose and tapers towards the rear. The TU-95 has a large bomb bay and is able to carry 20 tons of ordinance. The Bear also has two 23mm tail guns, which provide defense against fighters attacking from the aircraft's rear

Crew requirements vary depending on the mission. A generic crew consists of two pilots, one tail gunner, and up to four sensor operators. The Bear has a maximum takeoff weight of 414,500 pounds, a maximum speed of 575 mph, a range on 9,400 miles, and a service ceiling of 39,000 ft.

The TU-95 continues to test the readiness of US and NATO air crews by probing national boundaries. A role that began half a century ago and will continue for many years to come. The TU-95 has been a symbol of Soviet Aviation since the 1950's. Numerous upgrades have kept it a vital piece of Russian military strategy today and well into the next century

Recognition: The Northern Myotis or the Northern Long-eared myotis is another medium sized microchiroptera with a length of 3 to 3.8 inches and a wingspan of 9- 10 inches and weighting in at .18 to .23 ounces. These bats can be distinguished from the myotis lucifugus (little brown bat) by its long ears. This bat has a dull brown fur and the stomach is a lighter color. The Northern Myotis has a longer tail and a larger wing area that other similar sized bats.

Range: This bat ranges through almost all of Canada and the Eastern United States and as far west as parts of Wyoming in the Black Hills and Big Horn Mountains and the Northern part of Florida.

Trion

Habitats: The Northern Myotis hibernates in natural caves, iron mines, sand mines and other abandoned mines. They primarily roost and inhabit forested regions, and riparian wooded zones. They will roost under loose bark, buildings, behind signs and shutters and in crevices. The females will roost in warm sites of around 30 individuals in maternity colonies.

Food Habits: The Northern Long-eared bat will hunt for insects over water, forest clearings and under the tree canopies. They glean insects from the leaves and other surfaces. They appear to especially like flies. They do eat moths, beetles and leafhoppers. As with most insectivorous bats they are still opportunistic eaters.

Problems: As with all bats, some of the problems are the same. Disturbances of the hibernaculum causes stress on the bats and in the winter can severally stress them to death. Retaining diverse wooded areas will help the bat population in general as well as the Northern Myotis. Education of the public would probably be the best single protection of all bats.
